Best Control Practice Guides

MNFI is producing a series of Best Control Practice Guides in cooperation with MDNR Wildlife Division and State Park Stewardship staff. Those that have completed to date are linked below.

The guides include information on the origin and impacts of each species, descriptions with photos, and characteristics that can be used to distinguish them from similar species. Information on reproduction and dispersal methods is also included; an understanding of these traits can be important in controlling a particular species.

Successful control efforts require careful planning and a list of tasks and factors that should be considered in controlling each species is included. Each guide provides an overview of relevant mechanical and chemical controls, specific herbicides and application methods, with guidance on tailoring them to specific situations and site conditions. Useful online resources and a quick reference table for herbicides are also provided.
